BJCEM (www.bjcem.org) is an international network aiming at supporting the emerging talents with the objective of enlivening their cultural and expressive production, through the creation of spaces of encounter, reflection and formation; enhancing dialogue among the cultures of Europe and the Mediterranean and giving value and internalization to the territories included in this area. BJCEM is now working on the XX Edition of the Biennale: Mediterranea 20 – Young Artists Biennale as part of the official program of GO 2025! – European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia. We are looking for two international curators (one from Slovenia and one from Euro-Med area) that will be responsible, as main tasks, for the:
- elaboration of the concept of the Biennale starting from Borderless;
- preparation of the call for selection of artists;
- selection of the artists in accordance with BJCEM members (we are expecting to select around 100 artists);
- coordination of the set-up of the exhibitions;development of a program of the event and pre-Biennale residencies.
The two curators will have to work jointly and collaborate with BJCEM Executive office, BJCEM members and GO! 2025 programme team.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE
This call is open to curators with a confirmed interest in the cultural and contemporary artistic productions in the Mediterranean and/or in insular, remote, and small territories.
In order to be eligible candidates have to come from, live or work in one of the following countries:
- Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Lebanon, Libya, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, North Macedonia, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Romania, Serbia, Syria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Swiss, Tunisia, Turkey, UK, Ukraine.
Eligible candidates shall send the following application material:
- Portfolio: documenting their research practice, their past and current projects, highlighting a confirmed interest in the cultural and artistic productions in the Mediterranean (compressed Pdf).
- Motivational Letter: proving their specific interest in the project. (max. 2 pages);
- Application form, downloadable here.
All the dossiers, motivational letters, and application forms shall be sent to mediterranea@bjcem.org not later than June 24th 2024 – 9pm CEST.
Any application not complying with the requirements will be automatically rejected.
- SELECTION MODALITIES
Applications will be evaluated at their incontestable discretion by BJCEM in collaboration with GO! 2025.
TERMS
- The participation to this call is free of charge
- Each selected candidate will be provided by a gross fee of 5.000 euro
- 2/3 Round trips to and from Nova Gorica/Gorizia will be covered from July 2024 to May/June 2025
- Accommodation will be guaranteed during the missions in Nova Gorica/Gorizia
- The opening of the Biennale is foreseen for May 31st 2025
- The curator will be selected during the weeks following the deadline and selection results will be communicated immediately on BJCEM website ( bjcem.org ). ONLY the two selected curators will be contacted by email.
